Alarming Incident Involving Online Taxi Driver in Lahore’s Sabzazar Area

An unsettling incident involving an online taxi driver has been reported in Lahore’s Sabzazar area. According to the local police, the incident occurred near Karachi Pulley. After dropping off two women at their home, the driver allegedly followed them inside and assaulted one of them. The police have registered a case based on the victim’s complaint, and the vehicle’s number plate provided by the victim is aiding the investigation.

In response to safety concerns, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz recently announced plans to enhance online cab services and improve safety across the province. During a meeting with representatives from an online cab service provider, she emphasized the need for better regulations and technology to protect both service providers and users. She discussed implementing new rules to improve ride-hailing services and proposed linking the Women Safety App with online ride-hailing companies to increase safety for female riders.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the importance of creating better employment opportunities for youth and women and stressed the mandatory use of safety gear by bike riders. Additionally, she outlined plans to expand the free Wi-Fi project beyond Lahore and Kasur, making online transportation services more accessible, especially for women.

Maryam Nawaz reaffirmed the Punjab government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that boost business activities and create job opportunities, stating, “We will encourage every initiative that promotes business activity and creates employment.”
