New Industrial Zone Coming to Karachi in 3 Years

Karachi is set to get a new industrial zone in Surjani after more than 30 years, according to KDA Director General Syed Shujaat Hussain. Speaking at the Federal B Area Association of Trade and Industries (FBATI), he announced that the Surjani industrial zone will feature modern structures with essential infrastructure and utilities for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). This development will boost economic activities and create jobs for Karachi residents.

The new industrial zone will be completed within three years and will also enhance nearby residential areas. Over 500 plots, ranging from 500 to 2,000 acres, will be available for new industrial units.

FBATI President Syed Raza Hussain highlighted the need to improve infrastructure in Karachi’s industrial zones. He called for the development of major roads and intersections to ensure smooth traffic flow and the immediate removal of encroachments within industrial zones.

Babar Khan, CEO of FITE, suggested that KDA appoint a focal person to address industrialists’ issues and set up a one-window mechanism for quick resolutions. The lack of facilities, especially water, is causing industrial units to move from Karachi to other cities in Punjab, impacting the city’s economic activities.
