The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has shortlisted 10 international consultants/JVs/firms for the highly anticipated 5G spectrum auction. This auction aims to enhance Next Generation Mobile Broadband Services in Pakistan. Out of 11 firms that submitted expressions of interest (EOI), JHK Construction was disqualified, leaving ten qualified firms in the race.
The government aims to complete the 5G spectrum auction by April 2025. The shortlisted firms include Aetha Consulting Ltd & Specure GmbH, Coleago Consulting Limited, Communicators Globe (Pvt.) Ltd and Cenerva Limited, Detecon Consulting FZ-LLC, VTT Global NE&S, and Frontier Economics Limited.
These consultancy firms will develop strategies to optimize the release of IMT Spectrum, focusing on regulatory consistency, mobile broadband proliferation, and the sustainability of the telecommunication sector. Their key tasks include:
- Spectrum Valuation: Determining the value of available spectrum bands with future projections.
- 5G Launch Modeling: Developing strategies for 5G implementation based on international best practices.
- Policy Recommendations: Advising on policy actions and reforms to boost infrastructure investment and broadband proliferation.
- Comparative Analysis: Comparing Pakistan’s spectrum assignments with regional practices to identify gaps and suggest improvements.
Moreover, the consultants will address pricing and payment terms for spectrum bands, propose health hazard mitigation techniques related to 5G networks, and prepare detailed valuation reports for spectrum bands with future projections.
