In a significant move to ease the financial burden on electricity consumers, the Punjab government has announced a relief package that will reduce electricity rates by Rs. 14 per unit for August and September bills. This decision was revealed by Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), during a press briefing held in Lahore alongside Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
The relief package, designed to benefit households using up to 500 units of electricity per month, will be funded through a substantial allocation of Rs. 45 billion. Additionally, the Punjab government has committed Rs. 700 billion towards a solar energy program aimed at providing further support to the middle class.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his approval of the initiative, praising the decision as a significant step towards addressing the needs of everyday consumers. In a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office, he lauded the package as a prime example of a people-focused policy spearheaded by Nawaz Sharif and the Punjab Chief Minister.
This relief measure is expected to offer substantial financial relief to many households across Punjab, reflecting the government’s commitment to enhancing consumer welfare through strategic support and sustainable energy solutions.
